Etude in D major - Pius Cheung. Conrado Moya, marimba

The marimba soloist Conrado Moya performs the ‘Etude in D major’ by Pius Cheng. This is the first video of a whole ‘Trilogy in D’. Subscribe and stay tuned for new releases!

Composed and premiered in 2008 by Pius Cheung himself, the ‘Etude in D major’ is part of his project to compose 24 pieces for marimba solo, one of each key, as in previous examples in the history of music like Chopin’s ’24 Preludes’ or Bach’s ‘The Well-Tempered Clavier’. In words of Cheung, “despite the title of ‘etude’, it is not just a mere technical exercise, but a short musical moment. Though it is one of my more technically challenging pieces, one needs not to loose sight of the long singing lines and the dance-like rhythmic feel which hold the composition together.”
