We are honored to share clips from a special interview with the late Prof. V. Krishnamurthy (1927–2025), former Director of the K.K. Birla Academy, New Delhi, and former Deputy Director & Professor of Mathematics at BITS Pilani. A renowned mathematician, educator, and author, Prof. Krishnamurthy made lasting contributions in the areas of Functional Analysis, Topology, Combinatorics, and Mathematics Education.
We, the DOOT team, feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to interview him and capture his wisdom, reflections, and experiences that have inspired generations of students, educators, and mathematics enthusiasts. His legacy extends beyond research, having served as the President of the Indian Mathematical Society, President of the Mathematics Section of the Indian Science Congress Association, and Executive Chairman of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of India.
He has also been a National Lecturer and National Fellow under the University Grants Commission. In 1996, he led the Indian team at the International Mathematical Olympiad held in Mumbai.
Prof. Krishnamurthy is also a prolific author, with notable works including Combinatorics: Theory and Applications, Introduction to Linear Algebra, The Culture, Excitement, and Relevance of Mathematics, and The Clock of the Night Sky. His autobiography, Looking Back, offers a deeply personal and insightful reflection on his extraordinary journey in academia and other areas of life.
