Today I'll go over how to take a fresh new install of FreeNAS and restore using a backup configuration file. I took an existing FreeNAS backed up the configuration to a file. Then I removed the USB thumb drive that FreeNAS was installed and replaced it with a new UBS drive. The existing USB drive was starting to fail. I installed FreeNAS fresh to the new USB drive. Booted it up and logged into the FreeNAS and restored the configuration. Then after reboot, the existing ZFS store and services were all back to normal as if nothing had changed.
