Who feels like they could do with a system reset?

Like the day, the week, or even the last few years (a bit Rembrants) have left something behind that has not quite cleared yet. That wired but tired feeling where the body never fully switches off.

Sometimes it helps to imagine that lingering stress as something that can slowly wash through the system, given the right conditions. Not pushed out or fixed, just allowed to move on. A gentle clearing of background tension and cortisol that has built up over time.

Well, that idea is what this soundscape is built around, which I have called Cortisol Wash!

I spent time reading into which sounds are often linked with relaxation, slower breathing, and a quieter stress response. From there, I blended those ideas together to create a sound environment designed to feel fluid, steady, and non-demanding. The aim was to make something that feels like a soft wash moving through the system rather than another thing to focus on.

These were the core elements I worked with:

Deep pressure release
A deep, even hum like being held beneath still water; its slow, low vibrations calm breathing and heart rate, signalling safety to the body so cortisol can naturally ease down.

Gentle cortisol currents
Soft, wide currents flowing through underwater sand and stone; the steady movement reduces alertness and mental scanning, allowing stress hormones to be gently carried away.

To create this soundscape, I layered custom tones from my MIDI keyboard with low harmonic textures and subtle fabric-based brown noise. Everything was shaped to stay gentle and unobtrusive, especially during longer listening sessions.

So, put it on as you wind down, during a restless night, or whenever you feel the need for something slow and grounding.
