A major terror plot targeting Northeast India has been foiled.

In a coordinated midnight operation, the Special Task Force (STF) arrested 11 operatives of the newly formed Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK) terror module from Assam and Tripura. Intelligence inputs reveal that this group was operating under direct instructions from Bangladesh-based extremist networks, with the goal of destabilizing India’s Northeast region.

According to investigators, IMK was formed by a former JMB operative and later activated with support from extremist outfits after political changes in Bangladesh. The group allegedly used encrypted platforms for radicalization, recruitment, terror financing, and cross-border coordination. Some members even reportedly traveled to Bangladesh for training, including bomb-making.

Authorities have confirmed links involving UPI transactions, hawala networks, and covert meetings across borders. The arrested individuals have been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
