1992 Saturn Car Commercial - The Persistence of a Saturn Vehicle

Hello hello, welcome to another car commercial of the past! Here we have a 1992 Saturn Car commercial, showing the almost impossibilities of what your Saturn car can "go" through if it you were to say, be stuck in the blistering hot Sahara Desert, or in the freezing cold North Pole.

The car featured in the thumbnail of this video is of a Saturn SL, which is apart of the 1st generation Saturn "S" series line of Saturn vehicles. Let's go into the history of the Saturn S series and some specifications shall we?

The Saturn SL or "S" series was a line of vehicle produced from Saturn, from 1991 to 2002 that had 3 generations of vehicles spanning throughout that time period. We will only talk about the 1st Generation Saturn "S" series, being the 1992 model year specifically. 3 body styles were offered; a 4 door sedan, a 2 door coupe, or a 4 door station wagon.

The 1992 Saturn SL had a base 1.9 Liter, Single Overhead Camshaft, Inline 4 cylinder engine that was known as Saturn's "LK0" engine and that produced 85 Horsepower at 5000 RPM and produced 107 LB-FT Torque at 2400 RPM in Front Wheel Drive layout. Optional engines offered was the revised 1.9 Liter, Multi Port Fuel Injected, Inline Four Cylinder engine that produced 100 Horsepower at 5000 RPM with 115 LB-FT of Torque at 2400 RPM. This engine was known as Saturn's "L24" engine and became available for the S series in 1995. The most powerful engine of the group was a tuned 1.9 Liter, Dual Overhead Camshaft, Inline 4 cylinder engine that produced 124 Horsepower at 5600 RPM with 122 LB-FT of Torque at 4800 RPM. This engine was known as "LL0" Saturn Engine.

4 transmission options were available for the SL, the base transmission being a 5 Speed Manual transmission. The other three optional transmissions were; another 5 speed manual transmission that had higher gear ratio's than the base 5 speed manual, a 4 speed automatic, and a 4 speed automatic that has slightly higher gear ratio's than the first 4 speed automatic.

The Saturn S series were a somewhat reliable, line of vehicles in 3 different body styles made by the Saturn Corporation, that were made to compete with the other economy imports at the time. If you wanted a domestic 4 door sedan, 4 door station wagon or a 2 door coupe that was good on gas and was domestic, then the Saturn S series was the line of cars for you. Mind you that I don't actually think your Saturn vehicle would've lasted long in the freezing cold in the North Pole for much long.
