New Magma Intrusion occurs which puzzles the scientists! 🌋 March Eruption Is Over! Iceland 11.05.24

Volcanic eruption at Sundhnukur is now officially over. Volcano lasted fron 53 days from March 16th to May 9th and became 3rd longest eruption in Iceland this century (after Fagradalsfjall and Holuhraun. New magmatic intrusion occurred in the night of May 10th, proceeded by significant seismic activity at shallow depth. Magma accumulation under Svartsengi continues but as Krafla Eruption Series experence shows, the more instrusions happen the longer time and far more pressure are required to trigger a new eruption. Experts expect it to be brief and further north from the last erupting cone (seismic activity points to that). It is unlikley that the eruption will happen in Grindavik or other areas. 00:13 Sundhnukur Volcano no. 4 is over! No lava seen in crater since May 9.
