Part One of learning how to sweat solder a cabochon onto a stamped copper sheet & experimenting with Novacan Copper Patina

What is Sweat Soldering? Sweat soldering jewellery is a two part process whereby solder is melted onto one surface, cleaned, positioned and re-heated to join a second surface. As the metal reaches temperature, the solder floods or 'sweats' between the layers of metal, forming a strong and neat bond with no excess.

Soft Soldering tools:
- Hakko FX601 soldering iron Amazon.com
- Bernzomatic Micro Torch
- Burnishing tool (popsicle stick, smooth stone, bone burnished, etc)
- Disposable brush (trim bristle head) Any hardware store
- Personal safety mask, eye ware & a fan
- Chain nose pliers dedicated to soldering!!!****IMPORTANT as flux will affect these tools
- Wire cutter as needed
- Silvergleem lead-free soft solder Amazon
- Oatey No. 5 paste flux Any hardware store
- Copper foil (many different type’s depending on your project) Amazon
- Novacan Copper Patina
- 24 gauge copper sheet
- ImpressArt Metal Stamps
- Tripod with mesh screen
- Templates for shapes
- Metal Bench Block
- Hammer
- Black Acrylic Paint Marker
- 70% rubbing alcohol to pre-clean all items that will be soldered
- Painters tape
- Paper towels for clean up
- Dawn dish soap for cleanup
