Over the past two decades, I have observed that while PACS is integral to clinical workflows, its overall adoption remains low, even in countries like India with large hospitals and diagnostic centers. A report from 2024 indicates that GE Healthcare holds a 32% market share for PACS solutions.
Despite being an essential tool, PACS systems have largely remained unchanged since their introduction in the 1990s. Even today, hospitals like Fortis continue to rely on systems built decades ago, and we are still managing with these outdated technologies.
In my view, healthcare imaging systems should be cloud-based, creating a central hub for patient images. Data silos, where patient information is confined to hospital servers and not accessible on cloud platforms, are inefficient and limiting.
