When you shoot ultra-wide, absolutely everything in the scene is visible. And while that might seem like a good thing, remember that overly complex scenes are both distracting and not visually appealing. When the conditions are superb and you find the perfect foreground, the ultra-wide is your friend. Otherwise, it is not.

In this example, pay close attention to the bush on the bottom right and the mountain on the top right. Both take away from the subject by distracting and making the subject look smaller. By moving just a few feet to the right and turning slightly left, I was able to cut these elements out. Have a critical eye and pay close attention to objects even on the edge of the frame, as this attention to detail is what separates the best photographs from the rest.
