Having missed the boat from Harwich to Hook of Holland (due to congestions on the M25), I decided to spend some time at Colchester Zoo.
At that time (1997) my impression was that parts of the zoo were badly in need of renovation and upgrade to modern zoo standards with far more space for the animals.
I saw many animals that were pacing up and down in their small cages which was clearly a sign of stress.
Hopefully this zoo has made the necessary improvements by now.
