As the producer of this film, I'm extremely disappointed. I deeply respect the cast and crew (with whom I still remain friends) for their hard work & admirable performances. They're all lovely folks and they were all very accepting of me, though I had no experience as a producer. My only regret is that I didn't take their advice along the way. As experienced actors, they knew "what was up" while I didn't. After nearly a decade of waiting, I now see that I should've been much more involved; assertive... even though I was in Louisiana while all of the filming was in Texas. And as lots of you may already know, my "relationship" with the director is similar to that of Paul McCartney & Yoko Ono, circa 1970. That won't be changing.
The director (of whom I'd never heard) contacted me about making this film as a joint venture, knowing that I was deeply fascinated with this homicide case. He presented himself as a competent filmmaker, speculatively forecasting a theatrical release within a reasonably short period of time. Many years later (this production drug along for eight long years) it became a prospective DVD release, and then finally (after the director's hasty and vain attempt at repairing the irreparable audio mistakes), a "download release" was offered (by the director) to his preorder customers, which I found incredibly unappealing.
One of several reasons for the eight years in "production" lies within the director's collaboration with his longtime friend on another film project, midway through the production of THIS one!! I couldn't believe it, but I futilely held onto hope that it might be worth the wait. It definitely wasn't.
After the passage of a couple MORE years, he then hastily attempted to cram this unmanageable cinematic beast "into the can." Had he stayed the course from the beginning, my mom (who pumped six grand into this disappointment) would've been able to see the film before she died. She didn't.
The audio falls off drastically towards the end because the director used the camera's internal microphone when our sound crew was unavailable. Unfortunately, this cannot be replaced or repaired without great expense and difficulty. Believe me... a very competent producer tried.
Likewise, I eventually proofread and reworded/rewrote all of the director's numerous caption misspellings and incorrect phraseology from beginning to end, then placed them into a computer file. However, I honestly can't recall ever actually finishing the job, but I believe I repaired the majority of it. If his original captions are still up (towards the end), you'll know it. One of my bandmates and I moved some of the music around to its various intended scenes, but we never finished THAT, either. I just mainly wanted the opening & closing credits to receive the music I wrote for them (the one specific thing upon which I insisted after agreeing to get my two closest musician friends to help me score this potential film). Not long afterwards, I decided to say "screw it."
To everyone who ordered the DVD, but never received it as promised, I hereby assure you that the director was SOLELY responsible for delivering the product to the purchaser and/or refunds. No other person was ever assigned that responsibility, nor did anyone else have any jurisdiction over this.
Naturally, I'd love for this film to have lived up to its full potential and subsequently been released, but that would've required more than this collaboration could ever produce. Regardless, this is the closest you'll ever get (for now) to seeing what could've been a very significant peek into the factual unfolding of this disturbing and horrific-yet-eerily-fascinating case.
And finally, to my family and friends who invested money into this lengthy and arduous endeavor, I offer my sincere apologies. I deeply regret that this never became what it so easily could've.
