'I Love My Job’: How I Grew From Call Center Representative to Leading Over 950 People

Welcome to I Love My Job, hosted by Fairygodboss President and Co-founder Romy Newman. In this edition, we sat down with Anabel Chavez, the Vice President Customer Service Operations at Spectrum, one of the nation’s leading broadband connectivity companies.

Chavez has over 20 years of experience in the call center industry, beginning when she was a front line customer service representative. After spending time as a rep, Chavez was inspired to advance her education, and Spectrum was there to support her. “I decided to go back to school, get my bachelors in leadership and take advantage of the tuition reimbursement that the company provides to pay for those courses,” explains Chavez. “I never imagined that working in a call center would have given me the opportunity to grow in my career as it has.” Chavez had the chance to try many different roles: a customer service representative, a lead, a facilitator, a supervisor, a senior manager and a director.

Now, Chavez supports Spectrum’s bilingual call center and its over 950 employees as the Vice President Customer Service Operations in McAllen, Texas (which, coincidentally, is also where she was born). And, working at Spectrum has benefited more than just Chavez’s career. On a personal note, Chavez remarks that she actually met her husband over 22 years ago at a call center.
