Описание к видео IRMA has produced a short film on issues related to Peri-Urban areas

The Peri-urban are seen as an interface between the urban and rural areas, also called the transition zone or interaction zone, where urban and rural activities are juxtaposed, and landscape features are subject to rapid modifications, characterized by strong urban influences, easy access to markets, services and other inputs, ready supplies of labor but relative shortage of land and risk from pollution, urban growth and waste disposal problems. The outward expansion of larger metros, gradual changes in land use and occupations have transformed the rural hinterland into semi-urban or 'peri-urban' areas. Inhabitants of these 'peri-urban' regions are increasingly threatened by a deteriorating quality of life prompted by deforestation, water depletion and pollution as well as by the poor or almost non-existent mechanisms for sewage disposal. It explores and analyzes the stark truth of such areas. It will capture the socio economic status of these areas by broadly exploring the issues like migration, infrastructural facilities, economic status of the people, informal sector, Challenges etc.
