The Rules Reservoir (also called the Rules Dam) is located on the Guadalfeo River, downstream from its confluence with the Ízbor River, in the municipalities of Vélez de Benaudalla and Órgiva, in Granada, and collects water from the southern slope of the Sierra Nevada, the northern massif of the Sierra de Lújar and the deep ravines of the Sierra de la Contraviesa. It was inaugurated in 2004.

The Guadalfeo and its network of tributaries drain the territorial unit of La Alpujarra, located in the southeast of the province of Granada. The Guadalfeo River rises in Sierra Nevada, in the Sierra de Los Bérchules, in the Loma de Las Albardas, and is formed by the union of the Chico River and the Grande River. Downstream it is supplied by various tributaries such as the Trevélez River, the Poqueira River, the Órgiva River, the Lanjarón River and the Torrente Stream. It runs through the vicinity of important towns such as Órgiva, Bérchules, Cádiar, Almegíjar, Torvizcón, etc.
