Kanwar Yatra Deoghar 2022 Updates: The Kanwar Yatra of 2022 has started from July 14. This year's Kanwar Yatra is going to be even more grand after a gap of two years due to the pandemic.

The holy Kanwar Yatra starts at Ganga Dham (Sultanganj, Bihar) at Uttar-Vahini Ganga (North-flowing Ganges, hence holy) and ends at Baba Baidyanath Dham, Deoghar, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.

During the month of Shravan (July-August) Shiva devotees carry the holy Ganges water in a kanwar on the shoulder and pour it on the Shivling which is called Jalabhishek. During the month of Shravan, Kanwar Yatra is also taken out in other parts of the country, but Baba Dham Kanwar Yatra has its own importance. Shiva devotees take a bath in the river Ganges at Sultanganj and take a vow to complete the holy journey by worshiping at Baba Ajgaibinath temple. They take the Ganges water from the Uttara Vahini Ganga in two vessels and keep it in a bungi which is called a kanwar. Shiva devotees carrying these kanwars are called kanwariyas or kanwariyas. During the journey, the Kanwariyas address each other respectfully as 'Bamji' or add 'Bam' to their names and chant Bol Bal - Bal Bam on the way.
