This first of 2 videos, shows how to pencil the design with a good quality compass. A cheap compass will not be fun to draw with since they tend to open and close as you draw with them.
Triple patterns are the most common motif in Celtic art. They even predate Celtic designs too, in Ireland early triple spirals are found carved in the monolith at Newgrange, Co. Meath and on the wall inside its passage tomb. Thousands of years later in the 7th century Celtic monks began copying Byzantine bibles as their culture converted to Christianity. These monks used the compass to construct triple spiral designs on vellum. They also filled the pages empty space with celtic knots and figures too. The clover is likely an inspiration for the image.
