Team cohesion is critical for a high performing organization. In this video, I discuss the importance of leadership and how disunity among executives can cause significant disturbances that spread throughout the business.

As a business coach, I’ve been part of many organizations related to coaching. Unfortunately, one of the organizations that I’m a part of developed a division within the leadership. The problem with division is that it disproportionately affects the members of an organization and leads to problems that, if left unresolved, can have significant consequences.

In this particular example, we noticed a certain level of disunity growing over the years. It was a bit like watching parents having a squabble, and we were like children who became part of the divorce process. Eventually, the two sides of the leadership in our organization went their separate ways, and this threw up a whole new set of challenges to our team cohesion. It also laid bare the importance of leadership.

You see, with two leaders in the business, there are two sets of loyalties. Once the division happens, loyalty is no longer to the organization but to a particular leader. This division even caused tension among some of my friends and I, just because we chose to follow different leaders.

Leadership in an organization is meant to keep everyone working together at their optimum level. When leadership becomes frayed, then team cohesion often becomes tenuous. When it’s not certain who the team should follow, confusion develops at all levels. The importance of leadership is that it keeps the team together. Without it, you risk losing the undivided loyalty of your staff.

I’ve been lucky enough to assist many like-minded business owners. These are people who use their success to help those less fortunate. I’ve found that supporting a charity, like B1G1, has given me even more motivation to succeed. It’s wonderful to know that when my business is doing well, many people have the opportunity to live a better life.
