20th August 1966: With just a three week gap, following England's World Cup triumph, the 1966/67 season kicks off on today. The obvious venue for the BBC Match of the Day cameras, for this opening day fixture, was Upton Park where West Ham United's England triumphant trio of Hurst, Moore and Peters were welcomed on the pitch before the visit of Chelsea. Few realised that England's triumph would lead to the death of the winger as every First Division manager decided to opt for the same formation - whether they had the players to do so or not.
