BEATLEMANIA! -w/ Beatles historian David Bedford (ep#34)

I've never been a Beatles fan. Neither of my parents played it in the house and they weren't something that came close to Michael Jackson and other 80s & 90s pop icons I had in my SONY Discman.  But over time, I realized the Beatles were everywhere.  Be it in the artists they inspired or their discography that I'd heard on the radio occasionally without even knowing.   In fact, I guess I was a Beatles fan all along.

When the opportunity to interview David Bedford came up, I wanted to know more about what made the Fab Four so, well, fab.   The biggest shock during this interview was realizing just how many stars had to align for the band even to meet, never mind stay together. But more so, the Beatles were only together for ten years and toured for even less than that.

How much music history and impact were crammed into those years is incredible.

Whether you are a Beatles fan or not, you will surely enjoy this super fun chat.

David Bedford grew up at the bottom of Madryn Street, where Ringo Starr was born. He lives near Penny Lane, and his children attended the same school where John Lennon and George Harrison started their education.

When illness forced retirement upon David at the age of 35, he began a quest to discover as much about The Beatles and Liverpool as he could.  His first book, published in 2009, is now on its Third Edition: Liddypool: Birthplace of The Beatles.

His second book, The Fab one hundred and Four: The Evolution of The Beatles, was published in 2013 to critical acclaim. It featured every family member, friend and musician who contributed to the story of The Beatles, including the previously unknown school friend of John Lennon who started it all.

In 2016, he was a co-author with Hunter Davies, the only authorized Beatles biographer, on The Beatles Book,

David was also the Associate Producer and historical consultant for “Looking For Lennon”  a 2018 documentary about the life of John Lennon.

In 2021, ACC is publishing The Beatles Fab Four Cities, a book looking at the four cities that defined The Beatles' career: Liverpool, Hamburg, London and New York.
