In this video m gonna talk about fusion proteins.
The literal meaning of fusion is, Made of parts from different sources.
So, these are the proteins created through the joining of two or more genes, that originally coded for separate proteins.
Or u can say, its a protein consisting of at least two domains that are encoded by separate genes.
The Translation of these fused genes results in a single or multiple polypeptides, with functional properties derived from each of the original proteins.
Fusion proteins can be created in vivo, as the result of a chromosomal rearrangement. Example for such a fusion protein is.
The Bcl–abl fusion protein, which causes chronic myelogenous leukemia.
Similarly, Fusion proteins can also be created in vitro using recombinant DNA techniques.
