🔊🔛 I’ve been to #Montreal so many times I’ve lost count. Each time it’s different though, and this go-around I based myself in a part of the city I hadn’t explored before, La Petite-Patrie, a lovely, diverse and #foodie-friendly residential neighborhood, to visit new expat @Gldncrl. It’s home to Petite Italie (Little Italy) 🇮🇹 🤏🏾 and the destination-worthy @MarcheJeanTalon farmers and food market 🧑🏽🌾, i.e., the perfect place for me to be since my trip mostly involving just hanging out with my Quebecois friends, working remotely, and above all, eating.
Of course we started things off properly—with #poutine—along with other accoutrements and cocktails, followed by a quick slice at neighborhood pizza favorite, @PizzaBouquet 🍕, on the way to Vieux (Old) Montreal. 💃🏻 Thanks to the Air Canada flight attendant strike, @Gldncrl’s previously guest @LeahOnTheCape had to extend her stay—but with a night at the @HotelNelligan, which has a great roof terrace for wine and bites on a night of perfect weather.
Croissants and baguettes-turned-jambon-beurre 🥐🥖 from @PremiereMoison kicked off the next morning, as Marché Jean Talon started waking up for the day. After a morning stroll around Petite Italie and Parc Jarry, the market was in lively lunchtime mode with several food stalls, but I opted to just pick up some New Brunswick oysters to shuck myself. 🦪#imnotaplayerijustshuckalot That tied me over until I met up when my native Montrealer friend @Sarah.banana8 at her go-to dumping place in Rosemont, #LaMaisonDeMademoiselleDumpling 🥟. Also from #BootsnAll traveler roots, Sarah and I caught up while strolling St. Helen’s Island and Île Notre Dame in the St. Lawrence River, home of the Biosphere 🌐, the F1 track (used by cyclists), the Casino du Montréal 🃏, and a new landscape sculpture exhibit, @MosaiculturesInternationales in @ParcJeanDrapeau.
We met up with Montréal-native travel writer @World.of.Bert at @50BestBars speakeasy @TheCloakroomBar in Downtown Montreal 🍸, which eventually led to a dinner in his neck of the city, La Village, at casual Portuguese rotisserie @Aquinta.BBQ 🇵🇹🍖🍗, followed by homemade nightcaps 🍸.
It wouldn’t be a trip to Montréal without Montréal-style bagels at @FairmountBagel, which we enjoyed with lox and Rivieria cream cheese with a morning city view, after a hike up the stairs to the top of @LeMontRoyal. Smoked meat is the other foodie to-eat in the city (sorry, #Pizzaghetti 🍕🍝 and sad Quebecois Hot Chicken 🫛🥪), and the nearby outpost of @LeRoiDuSmokedMeat was recommended by Bert—which was great since I didn’t have to trek to Schwartz’s. Eating continued in the evening with another friend in town for a bachelor party, @OliverKHobbs, who we met for appetizers and wine at @VinMonLapin while waiting for a table across the street at bustling @PumpuiMontreal for Thai-spicy dishes 🇹🇭🔥—which were doused with ice cream at popular @Iconoglace.🍦 — Making more memories in Montréal, #Quebec, #Canada. 🇨🇦
