Part 6 of JJ Cale Drug Songs presents "Thirteen Days" from Cale's 1979 album titled 5. It’s about a band called Migrant Worker on a thirteen day gig in the south with five to go, that survives on dope, coffee and booze, barely making enough to get by.
JJ wrote it and recorded it at the Lakehouse in Old Hickory, TN, playing the guitar tracks and singing the vocal, with Jimi Hendrix's bass player Billy Cox on bass, Karl Himmel on drums (who'd played with Neil Young and Bob Dylan) and Christine Lakeland adding voices.
Cale's album 5 was recorded at four locations with several musicians contributing. They included Tulsans Carl Radle, Bill Boatman, Roger Tillison and Jimmy Karstein. also adding their talents were Kenneth Buttrey, George Tidwell, David Briggs and Terry Williams, to name a few.
The tenth track on the album titled "Katy Kool Lady" was replaced with "Out of Style" on its cd reissue in the U.S., while the imported pressing left it on.
