Donovan Mitchell - Super Scorer 18/19

Donovan Mitchell. 2018 Dunk Contest Champ. Mitchell upped his very impressive rookie scoring season from 20.5 points per game to 23.8 points per game (good for 15th in the league, tied with Kyrie Irving; better than the likes of Klay Thompson and former MVP Russell Westbrook). He also improved his 3 point field goal percentage and free throw percentages mostly through better shot selection; he went from 550 attempts from deep (making 187) to 519 (making 188) AND got to foul line almost exactly 100 times more this past season (from 239 makes out of 296 attempts to 319 makes from 396 attempts).

Here’s what I wrote in my 2018 video and it still very much applies:
“Mitchell is magical. His moves have moves. His stepover, his sidestep, swing step the stepthrough, the stutter, the drag dribble, the hesi, the smitty, the pivot into pump fake into rev pivot; Mitchell’s got myriad moves and he reels them off one after another in an almost abusive manner. He’s a scintillating scorer who can create, catch and shoot, go around, run through, or rise ABOVE his defender. His footwork is PHENOMENAL and obviously that’s in no small part thanks to his tireless work ethic. If you don’t already follow Chris Brickley on Instagram, you should. He’s one of the league’s most sought after trainers, and he has volumes to speak about Donovan Mitchell and how hard he works. Add all that to the fact that he fell into the lap of the REMARKABLE Quin Snyder, and you have the recipe for a superstar.”
