An inflamed thyroglossal cyst is a condition where a thyroglossal duct cyst becomes infected or irritated, leading to swelling, redness, and pain. A thyroglossal cyst is a congenital neck mass that forms due to remnants of the thyroglossal duct, which is present during fetal development but usually disappears before birth. In some individuals, parts of this duct remain and can develop into a cyst.
