Based on the 1812 German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, Snow White is the first traditional animated feature film and the first feature-length animation of Walt Disney Studios. The story was adapted by storyboard artists Dorothy Ann Blank, Richard Creedon, Meryl de Maris, Otto Englander, Earl Heard, Dick Rickard, Ted Sears and Webb Smith.


Snow White premiered at the Carta Circle Theater in Los Angeles, California on December 21, 1937. The film was a commercial and critical success, earning over $8 million worldwide during its initial release (compared to its $1.5 million budget), briefly holding the record for the highest-grossing sound film of all time. The film's popularity led to several theatrical releases, until a home video version was released in the 1990s. Adjusted for inflation, the film is one of the top ten films at the North American box office and the highest-grossing animated film.


In 1938, Sefidbarfi was nominated for the best soundtrack at the Academy Awards, and in the 11th Academy Awards, its producer, Walt Disney, received an honorary Oscar for this film. This unique award includes a full-size Oscar statuette and 7 smaller Oscar statuettes. These statues were donated to Walt Disney by Shirley Temple.
