Libby Richards is an associate professor in the School of Nursing at Purdue University. In this video, she explains how people can keep themselves and kids from getting sick as the back-to-school season begins. Around 80% of infectious diseases are spread through touch, and classrooms are full of high-touch surfaces such as desks, light switches and shared school supplies. Children also tend to not be good at handwashing but are very good at putting their hands and other objects in their mouths. As a result, a surge in infectious disease spread is very common at the start of a school year.
