But he lied about the results to gain publicity for his marketing firm.
More recent studies show that subliminal messages do have a short term effect.
In a study by London University volunteers were unconsiously shown subliminal messages on a screen.
Those confronted with negative words described their state of mind as more negative than the control groups.
A more controversial example is George W. Bush's 2000 presidential campaign ad stating the word rat in relation to Al Gore.
But if you look carefully you will see that subliminal messages are all around you.
The question is, are you aware?
