Does your baby cry now? Babies cry. Period. They are supposed to for a number reasons but primarily to communicate.

BUT sleep training is not supposed to cause your baby to cry and it is certainly not supposed to cause crying due to any kind of fear or distress.

A baby who is having a hard time with sleep is probably doing a lot of unnecessary crying already. By helping to improve their sleep, you most likely reduce a lot of that crying.

They cry because they are tired, frustrated that they can’t get to sleep and need your help and when we don’t know how to help them, our best efforts to comfort them can actually lead to more, prolonged crying.

Knowing how you can best support your baby’s development around sleep will reduce that frustration and reduce the crying (for both of you)!

In this video we explore the meaning of crying, our response to it and how to recognise if it is harmful or not.

When approached correctly, sleep training is not something that you put your baby through. It is a parenting practice that enables your little one to get the sleep they’re ‘crying out for’.
