Описание к видео Absalom Jones Celebration Procession

The annual Absalom Jones Celebration procession at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine on Saturday, February 13, 2016. Representatives from many Episcopal churches proudly carried their banners. The Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers, Canon to the Presiding Bishop (Bishop Michael Curry) for Evangelism and Reconciliation preached and The Right Rev., Andrew ML Dietsche, D.D., Bishop of New York led the celebration and Communion service.
Absalom Jones (November 7, 1746 – February 13, 1818) was an African-American abolitionist and clergyman. He founded a black congregation in 1794, he was the first African American ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church of the United States, in 1804. He is listed on the Episcopal calendar of saints and remembered liturgically each year on the day of his death.
Sponsoring Committees: The New York Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians, The Anti-Racism Committee of the Diocese of New York and The Reparations Committee of the Diocese of New York, worked tirelessly to make this annual celebration an ever growing success.
I am especially proud of the beautiful and colorful embroidered banner from my church, The Church of the Intercession, New York City.
