Before you merge on / what to expect at the Clinton Avenue area (Exit 16)

Clinton Avenue is signed as NY-15 and the I-490 ramps for downtown put you very close to the Troup-Howell bridge / Inner Loop connections; if you’re merging from the Inner Loop onto I-490 east or trying to exit to downtown, expect multiple short ramps and split lanes. The right-most lanes frequently become exit-only for downtown.

Traffic: this is an urban entry/exit zone, so during peak morning and evening commutes expect lane changes, on-ramp merges, and occasional slowdowns. Local news outlets also report incidents here from time to time (accidents near South Clinton have caused lane closures in the past).

Moving eastbound across the city toward the Can of Worms
