The Glenbarry Lad was danced at the Midwinter Twilight Social 0n 27th July 2024.
The dance was run by Box Hill Scottish Country Dancers in Burwood, Melbourne, Australia.
*THE GLENBARRY LAD (R5x32) 5C longwise set. Was devised by June Inwood.
It was dedicated to George Cooper: dancer, teacher, tutor and a founding member of the
Melbourne and District Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society.
George comes from Glenbarry between Banff and Keith, Scotland.
The Musicians for the Evening were:
David South (accordion), Duncan Smith (piano), Matthew Robertson and Philip Healey (Fiddles)
The Dance Instructions are:
1- 8 1st and 3rd couples lead down the middle for three steps, lead up for three
and cast off one place; they finish facing first corners. 2nd and 4th couples
step up on bars 7 and 8.

9-16 1st and 3rd couples dance a corner chain with their first corners, finishing
facing second corners.

17-24 1st and 3rd couples dance a corner chain with their second corners.
On bars 23-24 1st and 3rd couples turn partner with left hand (an easy turn) ready for

25-28 Right hands across: 1st woman with 2nd couple, 1st man and 3rd woman
with 4th couple, 3rd man with fifth couple. 1st and 3rd couples finish in the
middle left to left with partners and facing the opposite sides.

29-32 1st and 3rd couples half turn partner with the left hand, dance out to own
sides and cast off one place. 4th and 5th couples step up on bars 31 and 32.

Repeat from new positions
