How to Make a DIY, Game of Thrones - Inspired Wooden Shield

A few years ago i saw photos from Volpin Props and his Whiterun Shield from Skyrim made out of lightweight foam and it inspired me to try my hand at making a shield from one of my favorite shows, Game of Thrones. I didn't have access to many tools at the time and it took a lot of trial and error to get it just right, but I was thrilled by my new Stark Shield.

As a way of practicing on my X-Carve from Inventables, I decided to try a more intricate design. The first Targaryen Shield wasn't exactly what I wanted. The carving came out great but my method of painting wasn't up to par.

This video shows my most recent approach in taking on these two prop shields and I'm really happy with the end results.
