Today I try Kiyomi rum from the Helios distillery in Okinawa, Japan. I found several conflicting accounts of how this rum is made and what it is made from online, but the bottle itself says that it is molasses made from sugarcane grown in Okinawa and it is from a column still. This might not be everyone's favorite, especially if you're idea of funky or high ester is Jamaican rum. But this rum may offer you a subtle launch into the world of savory, briny rums while still being approachable and tasty in a cocktail.

I ran the MaD triangle taste test on this one. Neat. In a Daiquiri. And in a Mai Tai. The Daiquiri was a winner for me and a great way to explore this rum.
