After catching the intermodal train in Trafford, I tried to chase it up to Hayden, but wasn't successful in doing so, so I returned back to Jackson Road. While documenting the new 2nd track here (which ends just north of the crossing), the signal north of the crossing changed to a limited clear indication for the 2nd track (red over flashing green), so I decided to stick around. Didn't have to wait too long, as within half an hour, I heard a train horn to my south and then, not long after that, this crossing activated and I saw my fourth train of the day: a northbound CSX empty coal train with an ET44AH leading an AC44CW and an ES44AH pushing on the rear.

This crossing is a pretty nice & interesting one.
The signals appear to have been installed by CSX in the 1980s, though, in the late-1990s both of the original WCH mechanical bells were replaced with the current GS Type 1 e-bells. The crossing appears to have remained relatively unchanged up until 2013, when CSX upgraded this crossing to LED (like most of the other crossings along this line), and then sometime between 2014 and 2016, CSX replaced the original WCH gate mechs with the current Siemens gate mechs. Finally, the most recent changes here since 2016 is that the far gate arm was replaced, and a second track was added to the crossing here, in an effort by CSX to ease the congestion on the north side of Boyles Yard.
The cantilevers here are pretty interesting, having been re-used from an SCL line somewhere. Based on the faded inscription on the ladder of the closer signal, they appear to have come from a crossing in the Savannah, GA, area. Not entirely sure why CSX chose to re-use them here, with some Safetran 12x24 inch lights (that were more than likely left-overs from the SBD as well). However, I don't mind it too much, as these make for a nice change from the typical Modern Industries (and newer) cantilevers along this line.
This crossing was also the last crossing on the S&NA North to feature WCH gate mechs, and it's a shame they were replaced before I ever made my way out here. Honestly, I wish they were still around, as, IMHO, they looked a lot better here than the Siemens gate mechs do. The LED in the right-hand mast front light on the near signal is also in pretty poor shape, so I wouldn't be surprised if CSX replaces it before too long. However, both GS Type 1s sound pretty nice, so that's nice.
Also, when I first posted this crossing to the site a few years, I thought it was near Fultondale, but looking at it again, it appears to be closer to Pinson (which I plan on correcting on the site when I update this crossing next). But that's why the town is different from what's listed on the site, for those whom are curious.
