A shot-by-shot hickory golf course vlog featuring Connecticut hickory golfer Christian Williams playing hickory golf at Keney Park Golf Course in Windsor, CT.

The first nine holes at Keney Park were designed by Devereux Emmet in 1927. Emmet got his start in golf course design working with C.B. MacDonald on National Golf Links, and went on to design more than 150 golf courses over his career. Unlike MacDonald's template approach to design, Emmet took a naturalist approach,, working in concert with the natural terrain present rather than trying to overcome or subdue it. As a result, Emmet's courses often feature rolling terrain and blind shots - a characteristic on full display at Keney Park. Keney Park was expanded to 18 holes in 1931 by City of Hartford engineer Robert "Jack" Ross and the present-day clubhouse was added in 1934 as part of the Federal Civil Works Administration. As a sign near the clubhouse states, it cost 35 cents to play nine holes back then and 50 cents to play 18 holes. The course hit hard times in the 2000s and was in dire need of a complete restoration when Dusenberry Design of Milwaukee, WI, was selected for the job in 2013. The course was closed and Matthew Dusenberry and his team restored what they could of Emmet's original design while using the restoration as an opportunity to pay homage to the golden age of golf course design with new "vintage" details and features that fit well into the classic bones of the course. The church pew bunkers near the 8th green, Biarritz-inspired green on the par 4 7th, and principal's nose bunker on the 17th are just a few of those golden-age nods. When Keney Park reopened in 2016, it was nationally recognized as one of the best restored golf courses in the country and it has been a top public golf destination in Connecticut ever since.
