Getting Rid of Books That Have Been On My Shelves For Years

How fo you decide which books must go? That’s a question I keep asking myself every time I look at our crammed book shelves.

I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to books that I’ve collected over my life.

I’d like to keep them all however, now as I looked through all the shelves in our house, I came to the realisation that it's unlikely that I'd read many of them again.

Besides, we are running out of space.

Books have been a part of my life since childhood. They've helped me through the good times and the bad.

They've satiated my need of going down rabbit warrens before the age of the internet, they were always at hand in my life and resulted in an amazing collection of themes and subjects.

However, I realise that in my 50s, my tastes have changed.

What I held important in my 20s and 30s is not so anymore. During my 40s, I focussed on my career in the learning and development field and built a fantastic reference library for my profession - all of which now is up for sale in my eBay store and will continue to be sold in the coming years.

In its place, modern literature and classics will take their place. Authors who resonate with me and whose writing I love and adore, will take pride of place on my shelves.

In this video, I share some ways I'm making those decisions of which books must go. I hope I don't regret it but unfortunately, I don't see myself reading these ever again.

Most of books I buy have been collected over 40+ years. I rarely buy books new or full price anymore. I buy second hand or borrow from libraries or use their free e-reader services. I have a Kindle that I use sometimes although I prefer to read the physical book.
