Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a strategic milestone in Assam by inaugurating the Northeast's first-ever emergency landing facility (ELF) at the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh. Arriving aboard an Indian Air Force C-130J Hercules, the Prime Minister was received by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonawal. The facility, developed in coordination with the Indian Air Force, is located just a few hundred kilometres from the Line of Actual Control, significantly enhancing India's rapid response capabilities along sensitive borders. This dual-use infrastructure is designed to handle fighter aircraft up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes, serving both national security and emergency disaster response needs. The inauguration featured a spectacular air show with Rafale and Sukhoi fighter jets performing tactical manoeuvres and landings. The project underscores a major boost in defence preparedness and infrastructure development for the Northeastern region, signaling a clear intent for enhanced strategic strength.
