These verses sung are from the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, canto 10, chapter 3, verses 7-8. The great demigods come to worship Devakī, the mother of the Lord. As she holds Lord Kṛṣṇa within her, her form is as good as His, and she is fit to be worshipped. Because of a prophecy that Lord Kṛṣṇa would kill the evil ruler of the time, she awaits the birth in prison along with her husband. It is the rainy season, dark in the middle of the night. The evil king has killed her previous children, and she waits for this child in a mixture of joyful and fearful anticipation. The demigods who worship her bring her comfort as the one Supreme Being then makes His divine appearance.
