"Brother From Another Mother" is the first collaboration between Freedom Bremner (USA)
(Houseofreedom, Moby, Screaming Headless Torsos,) and composer, trombonist, and guitarist
Arvid Martinsen (Norway) (The Funk Disease). After a 5-year friendship, and several successful
festival performances in Norway, with Freedom as a guest of Martinsen’s band the Funk
Disease, the two composers decided it was time to write something together. The music was
written by Martinsen and the lyrics by Bremner. The song features Freedom on lead vocals
along with vocalist Tiffany T'zelle Wilson, and backing vocals from Freedom’s friends BSKi
(Brian Collazo), James “Biscuit” Rouse (screaming Headless Torsos, Lauryn Hill) and Arvid’s
youngest daughter, filmmaker Johanna Brygfjeld Martinsen.
It was a life-long dream of Martinsen’s to come to the U.S. and record with top tier New York
musicians. So, Freedom put together a killer rhythm section and vocal section and brought and
brought in producer Gregg Mayo to helm the project. They “laced it”, as we say….
Brother From Another Mother is the story of their journey through friendship and all of life’s
changes, love loss, family, struggles, and triumphs. It’s a story of two musicians from from
different generations, from opposite sides of the world, brought together by their love of
music, by way of the internet. Recorded in GMN Studios in White Plains New York.
