Every day, children from Karamoja are taken from their homes and forced to beg on the streets of Kampala.

In this powerful testimony, Sister Fernanda Christinelli, a missionary serving in the Diocese of Moroto, shares what she has witnessed firsthand. She speaks about child trafficking, street violence, trauma, and the quiet suffering of children no one seems to notice.

Many of these children live in slums like Katwe and Kisenyi. They beg from morning until night. If they return without money, they are beaten. Some are injured by traffic. Some disappear. Their childhood is stolen.

Through the Women’s Desk of the Moroto Diocese, action began. Street outreach. Advocacy. Research. Family tracing. And rescue.

So far, over 400 children have been taken off the streets and returned to school and family. Awareness programs now reach villages where trafficking was once accepted as normal.

This work is far from finished.

Healing takes time. Trauma runs deep. Families need support. Children need adults who protect them, not exploit them.
