Software Crimes That Send Developers To JAIL

Описание к видео Software Crimes That Send Developers To JAIL

If you wrote some code that ended up harming someone, or something, who should be responsible? Is it your fault? is it the fault of your manager who told you to do it? or someone else? Should software developers have better protection when things go wrong? or should we be held accountable for our own code of conduct? This is a question of ethics. What does ethics in software mean: can we define software development ethics that make sense. Is there some "Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics" that we should adopt?

In other professions, ethics are taught, and often ingrained in how people work. Think of Doctors “first doing no harm”. If you did release some unsafe software, should you be allowed to do that again in future? In other professions, unethical behaviour may prevent you from working in that profession again. In software, the rules and guidelines are often not so clear, but you still may end up going to jail if you get things wrong.

In this episode Dave Farley, author of Continuous Delivery and Modern Software Engineering, explores these ideas and talks about the challenges that face us, and when and how we can fall foul of the law and the slippery slope towards unethical behaviour.
