POTASSIUM BLOOD TEST
A potassium blood test is used to monitor or diagnose conditions related to abnormal potassium levels. These conditions consist of kidney disease, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

WHY SHOULD I GET TESTED?
To find out whether if potassium level is within normal limits; as part of an electrolyte panel or metabolic panel to help diagnose and determine the cause of an electrolyte imbalance; to monitor treatment for illnesses that can cause abnormal potassium levels in the body

WHEN SHOULD I GET TESTED?
Often ordered with routine health exam; when you have symptoms such as muscle weakness and/or irregular heartbeat (cardiac arrhythmia) or when an electrolyte imbalance is suspected; at regular intervals when you are taking a medication and/or have a disease or condition, such as high blood pressure (hypertension) or kidney disease that can affect your potassium level

Why do I need this test?
Your health care provider may order a potassium blood test as part of your regular checkup or to monitor an existing condition such as diabetes or kidney disease. You may also need this test if you have symptoms of having too much or too little potassium.


If your potassium levels are too high, your symptoms may include:
