The city was founded in the III century BC by Italian tribes.
Pérouges has been perfectly preserved since medieval times: the city gate and wall, stone houses.
The uniqueness of the appearance of Pérouges could not go unnoticed by filmmakers. Some scenes were shot here for the 1961 French film Three Musketeers.
