Echo Chamber - Interview: In Conversation With Saeyoon Jeong about 'Nyctophobia'

SYNOPSIS
Liz (Olivia Clari Nice) struggles with nyctophobia (fear of the dark), a form of anxiety disorder that causes sleeping issues. She desperately tries to fall asleep by entering her “inner world,” where she can access happy childhood memories. However, she becomes trapped in a time loop in her lucid dreams and encounters a nightmare, Dark Figure (Christopher Gilbert), who appears in various clown forms. The loop pushes her deeper into her dreams, forcing her to reach her subconscious, where she meets her worst nightmare: the original form of Dark Figure.

CONVERSATION
Saeyoon Jeong made her first short film in 2014, and since then she's been hooked. Finding different ways to express her creative vision.

During lockdown, she hit the point where it was time to take that next step, and so Nyctophobia was birthed!

Although very unassuming, Saeyoon is extremely convicted about the way she wants to bring her stories to the world. So it was fascinating conversing with her about the journey of her feature directorial debut.

We got into how she found her voice, and the transition to experimental storytelling. As well as sharing our own experiences with nyctophobia. And Saeyoon touches upon what might be next!!! Another interesting chat, hope you enjoy it!!!
