This year, NOAA is celebrating 50 years of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) program. We are privileged to be part of this history, contributing four satellites for the GOES-R series (GOES-R, GOES-S, GOES-T and GOES-U), providing more timely and accurate weather forecasts than ever before.

These advanced satellites deliver critical, real-time data to forecasters, ensuring communities have the information they need to act quickly and stay safe. From monitoring lightning with the Geostationary Lightning Mapper to watching solar activity with the Solar Ultraviolet Imager, GOES-R satellites are revolutionizing how we detect and respond to environmental phenomena.

The future of weather observation is even brighter with the NOAA's next generation weather satellite constellation, Geostationary Extended Observations (GeoXO). Building on the success of the GOES-R series, GeoXO will expand critical observations providing groundbreaking data, from real-time atmospheric mapping to the first geostationary views of coastal ecosystems and air pollution.
