This trip was organised with rhino and elephant authors and photographers, Daryl & Sharna Balfour of Wildphotos Safaris: http://www.wildphotossafaris.com/new-...

“We saw several more elephants while in the conservancy. Not every elephant was a tusker, but we enjoyed spending time with different groups of bulls. You can see they all have their own hierarchy, which they adhere to. The open grasslands were beautiful, but they enjoyed the mud. Late afternoon, we came across another tusker, Pascal. They mentioned he is shy, but I experienced him as a friendly chap. He was roaming the conservancy with other bulls. Not only will you recognize Pascal by his tusks but also by his droopy or floppy right ear. In elephants, it occasionally happens that the cartilage in the ear gets broken, perhaps by fighting, and it can cause a floppy ear. It doesn’t affect Pascal’s well-being and is not a serious condition. It is special to observe a super tusker among the younger bulls or perhaps bulls with smaller tusks. Pascal was 44 years old, born in January 1980. The first letter of the name comes from the mother’s bloodline, as you don’t know who the father is. Pascal’s mother was Patricia.”
