The Courage to be Vulnerable | Gareth Shanthikumar | TEDxUWA

Gareth Shanthikumar knows all too well about how hard it can be to take proper care of your mental health as a man, and it was these experiences that prompted him to found MAN UP, a men’s health organisation that talks to young boys about the importance of opening up and talking about how they are feeling.

Today, Gareth is here to speak about vulnerability and its critical role in helping to eliminate stigma around mental health. To be there for a mate is one thing, but to have the courage to be vulnerable and seek help for oneself is rare, and often ignored. If we can all accept that to be truly human is to feel, then we can go a long way to make sure that everyone will be okay.
Passionate about making a change for good in this world, Gareth Shanthikumar's goal is to empower those around him to tap into their full potential and encourage lasting impact.
Gareth has come to understand that the only way to truly help someone is to make them realise that they themselves are the key to this - and so he is determined to help set an example and support people in their journey to becoming their best self.
His current focus is on helping young men grow into healthy men by equipping them with the skills to deal with real life stressors - in an effort to bring more peace, joy and love into the world. He is the Co-Founder of his not-for-profit, MAN UP, as well as a health & wellness coach. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
