Let’s talk about rating decision secrets.

So there are 3 things that you want to look for when you’re deciding whether to appeal a decision that you received from the VA.

1. Look at the Evidence section of the decision. If there’s evidence you submitted to the VA that’s not listed in that Evidence section, the VA may not have considered it or they might not have received it. So that may be the basis for an appeal.
2. There will be a Favorable Findings section under each listed condition. Take a look at those Favorable Findings. If the VA found that you have an event or injury in service that caused your current condition, that’s a Favorable Finding that’s binding on the Board of Veterans’ Appeals. So that may be the basis for an appeal to the Board.
3. Take a look at your Code sheet. If you didn’t receive one with your decision, you’ll want to request a copy. Sometimes there are findings made on that Code Sheet that aren’t included in the rating decision. That’s a little trick the VA can play sometime in denying your claims or things like Entitlement to Unemployability.
