Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba | Dasara Celebrations 1972

Since 1945, Dasara has been an integral part of the Prasanthi calendar, and has been celebrated by an international gathering of devotees each year. Though the means and methods of celebration have changed, the festivity and gaiety emerging from each Dasara festival in the Divine Presence at Prasanthi Nilayam has remained the same. But there are some Dasara festivals that stand out as historic and one-of-a-kind. The Dasara celebrations of the year 1972 was one such example, for this was the first Dasara to be held in the then newly constructed Poornachandra Auditorium. In fact, it marked the inauguration of that hall! In this short 11 minute video, we see glimpses of that grand occasion. Bhagawan, wearing a silk gold shawl, is taken in procession from the mandir to the Poornachandra where He performs the Poornahuthi. We also see scenes of Bhagawan distributing gifts and clothes to the priests and devotees assembled, sueprvising the ongoing Veda Purusha Saptaha Jnana Yagna, and swinging on the Jhoola on the final evening. This video also includes rare scenes of how Prasanthi Nilayam looked in those olden days, be it the mandir itself or the famous Vatavriksham which reminds us of His childhood days.
